Gear Rentals

You’ve had your eye on an expensive day pack/sleeping bag/tent/backpack/kayak/whatever, but you’re just not sure if you’re going to LOVE it after you pop the big bucks for it.  Or you’re just not sure that you’ll use it enough to get your money’s worth out of it.  Why not consider gear rental?  There are a number of sources that will rent you gear, and ship it to your house, for a reasonable cost.  It’s a great way to test out products before purchasing, or to fill a need without putting up a lot of cash for something that will spend more time in your closet than in the wilderness.

Outdoor Exchange, a recent start-up, is a membership rental service.  It’s an interesting concept.  I hope they do well and are able to expand their horizons!
